There are career women out there that have similar or even higher qualifications than men but they get lower wages for doing the same kind of tasks as men.

If you are a women reading this: since you were contracted, has it ever crossed your mind that a man doing the same job as you might be getting a much higher wage?

Experts that have conducted research on wage inequality have established that despite possessing great personal attributes and qualifications, many female employees still get lower wages compared to their male counterparts.

Are you being paid less?

There are some general tips that female workers suspecting that they are being paid less than their male counterparts can consider.

First, if you are a female worker who is suspicious that your male counterpart is getting a higher salary for the same job, maybe then you might trying finding out from your employer why there is such an imbalance in salaries.  Employers are by law obliged to pay equal wages to any employees regardless of their sex, gender, race, nationality or religion. It is normal and usual for you to approach your employer if you feel that you are being paid less for the same task your male counterpart being paid more for.

Secondly, depending on the relationship you have with your male co-workers, you can ask them to show you their wage bill or payslip. From here you will be able to know whether or not you and your fellow male workers doing the same job are receiving equal pay.

Thirdly, but off course not the last option, depending on the response you receive from both your employer and male colleagues, if you notice any wage imbalance for the same job, then you are by law entitled to seek legal advice and redress from labour bodies such as the Industrial Relations Court or Employment Tribunal.
