Most mining and quarrying labourers not satisfied with job

16 May 2023 - Mining and quarrying labourers who work for 10 years will receive a salary ranging from Ksh25,716 to Ksh59,084 per month. This is the conclusion of research carried out by Mywage.org/Kenya, in 2023.

Based on our survey, workers in this occupation with 20 years of work experience earn the highest salary: between Ksh31,538 and Ksh79,567 per month. Per hour, employees with 10 years of experience earn between Ksh132 and Ksh303.

Mining and quarrying labourers mostly male

79% says they are male, while 21% entered female as their gender.

Average working week of 43 hours

Coverage by collective bargaining amongst employees is 8%, while 92% are not covered by a collective agreement, according to our survey. Workers in this occupation work 43 hours per week on average.

59% of mining and quarrying labourers fewer than 5 years of work experience

59% of employees have worked fewer than 5 years since their first job. 44% of workers in this occupation state that they have no permanent contract for their job. Workers in this occupation who have a permanent contract for the work they are performing, add up to 56%. 24% of all participating employees work in a multinational organisation. The majority of workers in this occupation work in organisations of 500 or more employees. For most workers, the majority of their coworkers are female.
