Despite the global recession that has sparked a series of job cuts worldwide, studies conducted by Ndola-based Basement Human Resource Recruitment, have shown that there are some jobs that are still hot and experiencing a demand for suitable candidates. The recession might have brought with it a lot of job cuts, but that does not stop you from seeking a new job.

Here are some examples of jobs that have enormous promise for growth in Zambia, according to labour analysts in Zambia.

Construction Workers

The construction industry in Zambia has become a lucrative sector employing both men and women. It is an industry that has enormous potential for career growth opportunities. Construction workers of either sex require a minimum qualification but they can earn a comfortable minimum wage in line with the provisions of the Minimum Wages and Conditions of Employment Act.

Teaching

Of all the jobs that can be described as recession-proof and infinitely in demand, teaching is it. Each year teachers are in demand as more schools open up and more experienced teachers leave the country for greener pastures. This leaves a window of opportunity for young and ambitious women and men who want to start out a career in the teaching sector. The bonus about teaching is the fact that one can work from a relatively young age until retirement. The sector has no age limit.

Nursing

Nursing is another profession that is currently offering employment to many youths in Zambia, as well as across the world. With the ever-increasing demand for improved health care, there is also an increasing demand for nurses to service health centres nationwide. While the more experienced and elderly nurses are either leaving the country or retiring, young women are being encouraged to take up nursing as it offers a fulfilling career and a reasonable salary.

Fuel Attendants

Despite the shortage of petroleum products and the ever-increasing price of fuel, job opportunities for fuel attendants are also increasing. A gas station attendant or usher will require effective communication skills and basic knowledge in arithmetic. The job might have limited opportunities for ambitious young women, but working at a filling station can be a starting point. While working at a filling station, fuel attendants are entitled by law to Medical Leave and they usually work in shifts.

Human Resources and Public Relations Officers

Human resource professionals continue to remain in high demand. With marketing budgets being slashed in Zambia, various organisations are increasingly turning to public relations consultancies as an alternative to traditional forms of media communication such as advertising.
