Job satisfaction high among pawnbrokers and money-lenders

Workers who are new to the job, will earn between K3,255 and K7,584 per month, based on one year of work experience. This is the conclusion of research carried out by Mywage.org/Zambia, in 2024.

Salary for starting pawnbrokers and money-lenders between K3,255 and K7,584 per month

Employees with 25 years of work experience earn the highest salary: between K3,993 and K16,182 per month. Based on one year of work experience, starting workers who are new to their job will earn between K3,255 and K7,584 per month.

Pawnbrokers and money-lenders mostly female

Workers who answered the survey are mostly between 24 and 29 years of age. Of the respondents, 59% are female and 41% are male. Of the employees who participated in the survey, 27% have no children.

Average working week of 43 hours

Workers in this occupation work 43 hours per week on average. Coverage by collective bargaining amongst employees is 8%, while 92% are not covered by a collective agreement, according to our survey.

67% of pawnbrokers and money-lenders fewer than 5 years of work experience

For most people in this job, the majority of their coworkers are female. People in this job who do not have a permanent contract for the work they are performing, added up to 60% of respondents. Of the participating employees, 33% work in a multinational organisation. Since starting their first job, 67% of employees have worked fewer than 5 years. 40% of workers state that they have a permanent contract for the work that they are doing. The majority of workers work in organisations of 500 or more employees.

The survey shows that 6% of the employees feel highly satisfied about their position. In general, most workers in this occupation are in between satisfied and dissatisfied with their position. This is the case for 42% of the workers in this occupation.

Among the employees, 39% reported they are dissatisfied with their wage. 40% of the employees reports to be highly dissatisfied with their wage.
