What is a Contract of Foreign Service?

This is a contract of service made within Zambia which is to be performed entirely or in part outside Zambia. 

This form of contract is for Zambians who are are working at the country’s foreign missions abroad, such as ambassadors and consuls.

What makes it a Contract of Foreign Service?

It is legally deemed as a Contract of Foreign Service when:

  • An employee is required to perform a journey from some place within Zambia to any place outside Zambia and to return to Zambia within one month of the commencement of such a journey.
  • Such a journey may reasonably be expected to be completed within one month of its commencement.

When is it not a Contract of Foreign Service? 

It shall not be deemed to be a Contract of Foreign Service if such a contract provides for courses of training, part or all of which are to be performed outside of Zambia.
