If you work as a Salesperson or Cashier, your responsibilities among others will be handling cash from customers, balancing books and working with customers, giving them information on products as well as selling products.

Salaries

Salaries for Sales or Cashier work in Malawi can range from less than K15,000 to more than K50,000 per month, depending on training and experience.

John Sani, who works in a retail store in the commercial city of Blantyre, says he receives less than K10,000.

“But in other companies the situation is different. Others receive more than K50,000 and where you have the right qualifications you also get more,” said Sani.

Qualifications

In terms of qualifications he said some people enrol with private colleges and get certificates in accounting or a diploma for Cashiers, whereas Salespeople can also hold qualifications in sales, marketing and business administration.

Most of the colleges require that you have a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) with strong credits in Mathematics and other science subjects.

According to Sani, normal working hours for a sales person or cashier are from 7:30am to 5pm.
