Salary Checker FAQs

Why does my gender matter when it comes to wages?

WageIndicator shows that a gender wage gap between men and women exists even for similar roles. Although the work done by both genders might be similar, they are compensated differently, with women receiving lower pay. The differences in these wages can be based on the number of hours worked or the skills and years of experience. Some differences which are caused by prejudice or discrimination towards women can be dealt with legally. Collecting information about the wages with personal attributes helps WageIndicator determine whether the pay difference is justified. WageIndicator contributes to market transparency and impartiality by analysing the gender wage difference across various occupations over time.

Why is the Salary Check survey showing a salary that is higher or lower than my actual salary?

The Salary Check predicts how much a person is expected to earn in their occupation. The data entered in the Salary Check is expected to be accurate as it differentiates and groups the information easily. If the occupation is not chosen appropriately or the details are not entered correctly, the survey might not match the actual salary. If wage information is correct, but the pay shown differs from what you earn, other factors like experience, talent or work ethic may have a role to play.

What are the Minimum and Maximum wages in the Salary Check?

The Salary Check survey uses the data input to create occupation-specific profiles that give information about wages. It shows how wages differ within an occupation based on talent, education, and experience. The maximum and minimum wages act as the upper and lower bound, respectively of a specific occupation. This offers an estimate of how much one can make in that specific field and whether they have the necessary qualifications.
