Salary Check FAQs

How does the Salary Check data differ from government data?

WageIndicator’s data is of similar quality to other such surveys. However, the Salary Check’s data generally becomes available in a more timely manner.  Every six months, the Salary Check is updated using new WageIndicator data. This lets the Salary Calculator reflect actual earnings for the hundreds of occupations recognized by WageIndicator. Another difference between WageIndicator’s Salary Check and government data is that conclusions cannot be drawn about the working population as a whole. The salary check tool provides Salary Benchmarking and other data of great informative value, but it is not based on a representative sample of the labour force.

How does my personal information make my Salary Check results better?

For its calculations, the Salary Check uses personal information like Gender and Educational Qualifications. This is because personal characteristics are important factors that decide the wages individuals earn. For example, due to the Gender Wage Gap, men and women may earn different wages even for the same job. Therefore, knowing these characteristics is essential to apply statistical rules and assign wages to a worker based on their profile.

Does the Salary Check account for overtime work and bonuses?

The Salary Check accounts for overtime work. The information you provide about your working hours per week is used in the calculation of your Salary Check. Bonuses are not included in the calculation of wages.
