Salary Check FAQs

Is the wage information in the Salary Check reliable?

Wage information is used to generate Salary Checks and is based on voluntarily contributed data. A guarantee of 100 percent precision cannot be extended due its voluntary nature. WageIndicator, however, encourages respondents to be as specific and detailed as possible when characterising their personal and occupational qualities, noting that doing so will help their professional colleagues use the Salary Check tool more productively, ultimately benefiting everyone.

How does Wageindicator collect the data for the actual salary indications?

WageIndicator collects data using a completely voluntary internet survey available at national WageIndicator sites. This survey is currently available in 47 languages and 140 countries. The latest survey format is straightforward, limited to multiple-choice questions, and comparable to those used by statistical agencies for traditional labour market surveys. To protect the respondent's confidentiality, the data is anonymised and subject to stringent security controls. WageIndicator also analyses wage-related data based on in-person interviews in 30 countries with less advanced network infrastructure. This information is also used to calculate wage forecasts.

Why are questions about personal characteristics included in the survey?

The income that people make is considerably influenced by their individual factors. Understanding these factors is required for using empirical methodologies that attribute wages to each occupation and worker profile. Thus, the Salary Check asks for details about personal characteristics to provide accurate and reliable wage information.
