The following refers to an accident in a factory which: 

  • Causes loss of life to a person employed in that factory, or
  • Disables any such person for more than three days from earning full wages for the work for which they were employed

What happens if an accident occurs in a factory?

The law requires the owner of the factory to immediately send written notice of the accident to a labour inspector

What happens if a worker dies as a result of an accident at work?

Where an accident causing disablement is notified to a labour inspector in writing and after notification, an employee dies; the owner of the factory shall as soon as the death comes to his knowledge send notice in writing of such death to a labour inspector.

Who should report death caused by an accident in a factory? 

Both, the employer and owner of the factory, if different, must report the accident, injury or death of a worker resulting from an accident in a factory.  

What happens if the employer does not report an accident or death?

The employer shall, if he fails to report the accident to the owner immediately, be guilty of an offence.
