26 November 2023 - Following the recent identification of 22 banned herbal medicines, the Rwanda Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has drafted measures to safeguard public health by preventing banned products from re-entering markets. Previously banned in 2022, the FDA cited both safety and quality concerns for these herbal medicines. Lazare Ntirenganya, Division Manager for Pharmacovigilance and Food Safety Monitoring Division, highlighted the importance of post-recall audits, citing fines and routine inspections as measures for effective monitoring. Other measures undertaken include media campaigns, collaborating with law enforcement agencies to take legal action, advocating for medical advice to be taken only from licensed health professionals, and many others. Based on our survey, people in this job with 30 years of work experience earn the highest salary: between RF60,140 and RF225,897 per month. The Labor Code in Rwanda states that an employer is required to maintain health and safety standards at the workplace. An employer is required to maintain a common state of cleanliness and presentation of hygiene at all times.
