Promotion of employees in the Private Sector

Promotion at work, Promotion and Private Sector Employees in Malawi, Malawi and Promotion at Work, Labour Laws and Salaries and more on

There are several factors that an employer looks at when promoting staff in the private sector in Malawi. These include examining:

  • The record of performance in the employer’s existing post based on their annual performance appraisal
  • The competency of the employee to undertake duties in the higher grade under consideration
  • The efforts of the employee to upgrade their skills and realise his or her potential
  • The long-term potential of the employee
  • The length of service on the current grade and an assessment of whether the rate of career progression is a fair reflection of ability, performance and potential
  • The employees’ prior disciplinary record.
  • The general qualities of the employee

It is only after an employee satisfies these points that he or she will be considered for promotion.
