동물 실험(動物實驗, 영어: animal testing, animal experimentation, animal research, in vivo testing)이란 교육·시험·연구 및 생물학적 제제(製劑)의 생산 등 과학적 목적을 위하여 실험동물을 대상으로 실시하는 실험 또는 그 과학적 절차를 말한다. 전 세계적으로 매년 약 6억 마리의 동물들이 실험 동물로 쓰이고 있다고 추정된다. 대부분의 실험 동물들은 실험이 끝난 뒤 안락사를 시킨다. 실험 동물들은 대개 대량으로 사육되지만 몇몇 동물들은 야생에서 붙잡히기도 한다. 실험은 대학, 병원, 농장 뿐만 아니라 제약 회사, 화장품 회사, 식품 회사 등 많은 곳에서 동물 실험은 광범위하게 이루어지고 있다. 동물실험은 유전적 특징, 성장 과정, 행동 양식을 관찰하는 순수 조사뿐 아니라 이종이식, 약물 반응 검사, 독극물 반응 검사등에 이용된다.
